While the central government recently declared India 100% electrified, two significant obstacles remain in India’s progress towards a genuinely universal electrification. The first is connectivity itself. The government’s definition of village electrification is that public places and at least 10% of homes are electrified, and the reality is that 17% of Indian households still lack a power connection. The second obstacle is the availability of power.
